AmeriCorps/KUPU Outreach Assistant
Scott Van De Verg joined the Hawai‘i Conservation Alliance as our Outreach Assistant in October 2016.
A recent graduate from the Botany department at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, he is interested in the protecting the diversity of native species through engagement of restoration efforts. In his final semester as an undergraduate, he was the President of the Botanical Society of America Student Chapter and was able to participate in a valuable research experience. He now aims for community cooperation in natural resource management through outreach, volunteering, and leadership.
Being born and raised in Kailua, Oʻahu, Scott has achieved a great appreciation for the beauty of our natural environment and wants to protect it for future generations to come. During the summer of 2016, he participated as a volunteer intern for Kōkeʻe Resource Conservation Program to remove invasive species from the forest in Kōkeʻe. Although he is an avid hiker and mountain climber, he especially enjoys costal plants, limu, and microorganisms. His broad interests include science, conservation, Hawaiiana, and bridging these schools of thought together. Please feel free to contact Scott with any inquiries regarding outreach and opportunities for conservation.
