KUPU AmeriCorps Internship

Krysten Tomaier joined the Hawai‘i Conservation Alliance as our Conservation Connections Assistant in October 2017. She is originally from Southern California, but moved to Honolulu after living in Cambridge, MA for the past two years. She grew up spending days at the beach and the tide pools with her family, and more recently has spent a lot of time in the mountains and forests of Sierra Nevada. These experiences have helped her develop a great love and appreciation for the natural world.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management Economics from the University of California Santa Cruz, and is currently working towards a Master’s in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard Extension School. She first came to understand how pressing climate change is while taking an environmental studies course at UC Santa Cruz. She learned that her hometown, San Pedro, would soon be under water due to sea level rise and coastal erosion, which encouraged her to go back to school to learn more about what role she can play in mitigating climate change disasters.

Krysten enjoys spending her free time with her husband surfing, hiking, camping, and exploring new places.
