2024 AAI ʻAha

2024 AAI ʻAha

What does it take to advance collection action in ahupuaʻa restoration? How might we move forward together? In Spring 2024, the Ahupuaʻa Accelerator Initiative (AAI) began to address these questions through a multi-partner, multi sector convening of 60 leaders and decision makers from 44 community, public, private, non-profit, and related organizations. Collectively, participants possessed a significant depth and breadth of technical and practical experience critical to advance present-day ahupuaʻa stewardship and restoration in Hawaiʻi.

Together with our partners and collaborators, the AAI is pleased to share the Summary Report from this gathering, the 2024 AAI ʻAha. The in-person convening, held in Kāneʻohe, Oʻahu, stems from and builds upon efforts of the AAI since 2021, including the 2022-2023 AAI Peer-to-peer Learning Cohort and the Kauwela 2023 release of the Ahupuaʻa Action Agenda.

The ʻAha provided a facilitated space for interactive, action-oriented dialogue and decision making to deepen and expand stewardship and restoration efforts. Through small and large group exchange, participants began to catalyze collective action by furthering new and renewed collaborations focused on, or expanding upon, the 2023 Ahupuaʻa Action Agenda. Participants also began to mobilize ideas, tools, and resources to appropriately accelerate systems-focused ahupuaʻa stewardship and restoration priorities. Participants expressed high interest in continuing to advance ideas and actions through collaborations that were established or reaffirmed at the ʻAha. Several multipartner collaborations have gained momentum since the ʻAha and many more discrete actions are envisioned to progress when the time is right. Additional updates will be shared here when they are available.
