Society for Conservation Biology – Hawaiʻi Chapter (HI-SCB) Summer Evening Event: “ʻĀina Momona: Conservation for Abundance”
5:30 – 7:30 PM (Cash bar available)
Room 311
This event is open to the public. During this event, we will revisit the theme of our Spring General Meeting with another conversation on “Āina momona: Conservation for Abundance.” Our panel will feature: Heʻeia National Estuarine Research Reserve Manager Dr. Kawika Winter, UH Mānoa’s Dept. of Natural Resources & Environmental Management Assistant Professor Dr. Melissa Price, and Office of Hawaiian Affairs Legacy Land Specialist Brutus La Benz.
Following this featured talk story, we will explore ways to apply this concept into conservation efforts across the State and discuss initiatives HISCB would like to take on going into 2020. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about HI-SCB at the Chapter and Global level, get an update on the Chapter and to get involved with our committees (Outreach & Education, Policy, and Science Communications).

Pau Hana Reception – “Accelerating Ahupuaʻa-wide Restoration: Grab a drink, and tell us what you think!”
5:30 – 7:30 PM (Cash bar available)
Room 313
The Kamehameha Schools, Harold KL Castle Foundation, and Hawaii Conservation Alliance are working to serve as a catalyst for a broad collaboration to understand and actualize actionable, full-scale ahupua’a restoration—from the heavens to the horizon. Many of us are fully committed to portions of this goal, but rarely do we have the time and space to consider needs, opportunities, and issues for an ahupua’a as a whole. This reception will be a step toward a comprehensive discussion by the collective, reminding us that we are all part of the same community working toward a shared conservation goal. Join us for pau hana libations and pupus for a fun opportunity to provide real-time input to kick off this process.
