2022 Student Scholarship Program

In partnership with Hauʻoli Mau Loa Foundation’s Environmental Leadership Pathways Initiative, the Hawai’i Conservation Alliance and Foundation (the Alliance & Foundation) is proud to announce the 2022 Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference (HCC) Student Scholarship Program. This registration incentive provides a one-of-a-kind career development opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in a conservation-related field. The Alliance & Foundation is allowing all enrolled students* into the program to receive a five-day registration to HCC which is inclusive of access to all virtual Conference sessions (during and after), the virtual exhibit hall, and Conference materials at a subsidized rate of $5 via a registration coupon code. Student Scholarship Application will remain open until Thursday July 14th, 2022 11:59 PM HST.


Student Scholarship recipients are also eligible to apply for the Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program. This program provides an opportunity for students from Hawai‘i to meet and network with Hawaiʻi’s established professionals in the conservation research and natural resource management community. If you’re interested in the Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program, you must submit this Student Scholarship Application by Thursday June 23rd, 2022 11:59 PM HST.

*Preference will be given to applicants who meet one of the following criteria listed below

  1. A CURRENT Hawai‘i high school student
  2. A CURRENT Hawaiʻi high school student who will graduate in May/June of 2022 and will no longer be enrolled in an education program
  3. A Hawaiʻi high school graduate who is CURRENTLY enrolled in a post-secondary education institution in Hawaiʻi (undergraduate, graduate, associates, etc. program)
  4. A Hawaiʻi high school graduate who will graduate from a post-secondary education institution in Hawaiʻi in May/June of 2022 and will no longer be enrolled in an education program
  5. A Hawaiʻi high school graduate who is CURRENTLY enrolled in a post-secondary education institution outside of Hawaiʻi (undergraduate, graduate, associates, etc. program)
  6. A Hawaiʻi high school graduate who will graduate from a post-secondary education institution outside of Hawaiʻi in May/June 2022 and will no longer be enrolled in an education program
  7. A student who did not graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school but is CURRENTLY enrolled in a post-secondary education institution in Hawaiʻi (undergraduate, graduate, associates, etc. program)
  8. A student who did not graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school but will graduate from a post-secondary education institution in Hawaiʻi in May/June 2022 and will no longer be enrolled in an education program

**In order to receive the Student Scholarship and the registration coupon code, you must

  1. Submit this application in its entirety. All applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment to environmental conservation, especially in Hawaiʻi.
  2. You MUST send enrollment verification to capacity@hawaiiconservation.org in addition to submitting this application. Acceptable enrollment verification must indicate your name and the semester your are currently enrolled for or graduation date. Ex: Class Registration, Unofficial Transcript, Diploma.

Program Requirements:

  1. Strongly encouraged to attend the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Emerging Professionals Workshop Workshop #146: How to Tell a Compelling Conservation Story” on Tuesday July 19th 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM HST.
  2. Complete Post HCC Student Scholarship Program Survey

Process:

All Student Scholarship applicants will be accepted into the scholarship program, provided the applicant has met the eligibility requirements and submitted necessary documentation. Applicants will be accepted into the Student Scholarship Program on a rolling basis. You will receive notification of whether or not you have been accepted into the program within a week of submitting your application. If you are accepted into the program you will receive the registration coupon code in your acceptance email. At the time of registration, you will need to input your registration coupon code in order to be charged the subsidized registration rate of $5.

This program provides an opportunity for emerging professionals from Hawai‘i to meet and network with Hawaiʻi’s established professionals in the conservation research and natural resource management community. If you’re interested in the Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program, you must submit this Student Scholarship Application by Thursday June 23rd, 2022 11:59 PM HST.

*Preference will be given to applicants who meet one of the following criteria listed below (please note that most individuals will have graduated in the Winter of 2021 or prior)

  1. An emerging professional, who has graduated from a Hawaiʻi high school and has gone straight into the workforce (has not attended college/university as of yet) and is no more than three years into his/her career working in Hawaiʻi
  2. An emerging professional, who graduated from a Hawaiʻi high school and a Hawaiʻi college/university and is no more than three years into his/her career working in Hawaiʻi
  3. An emerging professional, who graduated from a Hawaiʻi high school and a college/university outside of Hawaiʻi and is no more than three years into his/her career working in Hawaiʻi
  4. An emerging professional, who did not graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school but graduated from a Hawaiʻi college/university and is no more than three years into his/her career working in Hawaiʻi
  5. An emerging professional, who did not graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school and did not graduate from a Hawaiʻi college/university but is working in Hawaiʻi and is no more than three years into his/her career

**In order to receive the Student Scholarship and the registration coupon code, you must

Program Requirements:

  1. Strongly encouraged to attend the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Emerging Professionals Workshop “Workshop #146: How to Tell a Compelling Conservation Story” on Tuesday July 19th 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM HST.
  2. Complete Post HCC Emerging Professional Scholarship Program Survey

Process: 

Applicants will be accepted into the Emerging Professionals Scholarship Program on a first come, first serve basis (provided the applicant has met the eligibility requirements) until all 150 slots are filled. You will receive notification of whether or not you have been accepted into the program within a week of submitting your application. If you are accepted into the program you will receive the registration coupon code in your acceptance email. At the time of registration, you will need to input your registration coupon code in order to be charged the subsidized registration rate of $15. If there are extra scholarship slots available, the Emerging Professional Scholarship Application will re-open. At that point, applicants will be considered and accepted into Emerging Professional Scholarship Program on a rolling basis, provided the applicant has met the eligibility requirements.

2022 Student Rate (no connection to Hawaiʻi)

The Hawai’i Conservation Alliance and Foundation (the Alliance & Foundation) aims to provide opportunities for all students to participate in our 2022 Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference (HCC). This year the Alliance & Foundation is providing a discounted registration rate for currently enrolled students outside of Hawaiʻi* (with no connection to Hawaiʻi). Qualifying students will receive a five-day registration to HCC which is inclusive of access to all virtual Conference sessions (during and after), the virtual exhibit hall, and Conference materials at a discounted rate of $50 via a registration coupon code. This Student Rate (for students with no connection to Hawaiʻi) Application will remain open until Thursday July 14th, 2022 11:59 PM HST.

 

*A qualifying applicant will meet one of the following criteria listed below (please note that ALL qualifying individuals will have no connection to Hawaiʻi)
  1. A current high school student attending a high school outside of Hawaiʻi**
  2. A student who will graduate from a high school outside of Hawaiʻi** in May/June of 2022 and will no longer be enrolled in an education program
  3. A student (who did NOT graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school) currently enrolled in a post-secondary education institution (undergraduate, graduate, associates, etc. program) outside of Hawaiʻi**
  4. A student (who did NOT graduate from a Hawaiʻi high school) who will graduate from a post-secondary education institution outside of Hawaiʻi** in May/June 2022 and will no longer currently enrolled in an education program

**Outside of Hawaiʻi = continental US, American Samoa, France, China, etc.

**In order to receive the Student Rate and the registration coupon code, you must

  1. Submit this application in its entirety.
  2. You MUST send enrollment verification to capacity@hawaiiconservation.org in addition to submitting this application. Acceptable enrollment verification must indicate your name and the semester your are currently enrolled for or graduation date. Ex: Class Registration, Unofficial Transcript, Diploma.

Process:

2022 Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program

Student Scholarship & Emerging Professional Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for the Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program coordinated by the Alliance’s Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Subcommittee. The intention of this program is to provide an opportunity for students & emerging professionals from Hawai‘i to meet and network with Hawaiʻi’s established professionals in the conservation research and natural resource management community. To apply for the Pūlama Kuamoʻo Mentorship Program, you must indicate your interest on your Student Scholarship Application or Emerging Professionals Scholarship Application. Learn more about this mentorship program here.

2022 Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Emerging Professionals Workshop

Held annually at Conference, the Alliance’s Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Subcommittee develops a workshop that provides emerging professionals and students an opportunity to develop technical, networking and leadership skills critical for career, community, and personal success. Workshop topics are selected based on the interests and needs indicated on surveys taken by emerging professionals and students. Our goal is to empower workshop participants to lead from where they are, by providing them the opportunity to put learned skills into practice. Learn more about this annual workshop and view past workshop topics here.

Workshop #146: How to Tell a Compelling Conservation Story – A Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Emerging Professionals Workshop

Tuesday July 19th, 2022 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Workshop participants will learn the importance of storytelling and good storytelling techniques using various modalities. In breakout room sessions, storytelling experts will share how to garner and tell impactful stories through their modalities, including pitching stories to traditional and online media, portraying stories of place through story mapping, introducing yourself to communities through hoʻolauna, visual imagery, and more. Some participants will have the opportunity to apply these techniques to their own story and get feedback, but others can also observe and find inspiration for telling their story.
