Aloha Conference Attendees! This year during our Conference we will be having Fun Intermission Sessions & Affiliated Content to help break up the days of Conference! We strongly encourage you to take advantage of these sessions to help you relax and learn something new!

Tuesday September 1st:

Opening Protocol & Plenary & HCA Awards

Help us “build” our virtual kuahu by lending your voice, from wherever you are, and joining us in “E ulu ē.”  Words provided here. As mentioned in previous communications, we will be hosting a “virtual kuahu” as a part of this year’s opening ceremony.  The oli “E ulu ē” will be shared, vocalizing our intentions for growth, abundance and aloha and helping maintain our connection to the world around us and its inhabitants, including one another.  We hope you will kokua as we establish this foundation by joining us for “E ulu ē”.

We know operating virtually from home can be a challenge, especially with little ones. Thatʻs why this year, we are offering a fun and relaxing 30 minute all-ages yoga class in between sessions! Join Sarah Grisafi, a certified childrenʻs Yoga Instructor, for family-style yoga classes great for anyone looking for a brain break. (Pick up some tips on how to practice yoga with a younger audience…classes are geared to ages 3 to 12).

Workshop on International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) 2020 Motions

Thurs. Sept 3rd 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Faculty, graduates, and students of the William S. Richardson School of Law will review a selection of motions being considered by the IUCN as well as the motions process. This overview will be of particular interest to IUCN members as well as those working in international policy.

Fantastic Field Camps: Seals, Turtles, & Talk Story

Thurs. Sept 3rd 1:45 – 2:15 PM

This presentation includes a quick introduction to NOAA’s Protected Species Assessment and Recovery Camps in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, followed by an informal Q&A session hosted by real live field researchers. Join us to talk story about our remote field camps where each year NOAA deploys seasonal field researchers to monitor and study Hawaiian monk seals and green sea turtles. Get answers to all your burning field camp questions, such as what is like living in a tent for 4 months with one other teammate on the island? What is a normal day conducting field work like? How do you do dishes and laundry? What really is a longdrop? And, this sounds like an amazing experience – how do I apply?! We’re here to answer all your questions and more!

Youth Climate Justice Colloquium – Environmental Racism in Our Backyards: A Journey Through Current & Former Injustices in Hawaiʻi

Fri. Sept 4th 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Interested in learning more about climate justice ? Join us for the Youth Climate Justice Colloquium! This is a FREE, interactive virtual event held on Zoom. You’ll get to learn about environmental racism and climate justice in Hawaiʻi directly from community members and non-profit organizations. A youth organized event, it is open to the public and people of all ages are welcome to join. We look forward to seeing you there ?!
